The inception of Mahatma Gandhi Vidyamandir, Nashik, owes its genesis to the visionary leadership and relentless efforts of its founder, the late Karmaveer Bhausaheb Hiray. A stalwart freedom fighter, he played a pivotal role in the formation of the Maharashtra state and the cooperative movement in Nashik District. Additionally, he served as an educator and the former Revenue Minister of the Bombay province.

Establishing two esteemed educational institutions in Nashik District, namely "Adivasi Seva Samiti" in 1945 and "Mahatma Gandhi Vidyamandir" in 1952, Bhausaheb Hiray aimed to democratize education, ensuring accessibility across all strata of society.

Mahatma Gandhi Vidyamandir aspires to be an eminent hub of higher education, committed to delivering exemplary academic standards. It emphasizes the cultivation of moral principles among its students, fostering a society cantered on human welfare, ecological sustainability, and social justice, while promoting dignity, equality, and a scientific mindset.

In 1971, the late Loknete Vyankatrao Hiray initiated the Arts and Commerce College at Yeola, an offshoot of the parent institute. This pioneering endeavour aimed at providing quality higher education while nurturing the holistic development of students to meet global challenges. Adhering to the motto "Bahujan Hitay, Bahujan Sukhay" (For the welfare and happiness of the masses), the college addresses the educational needs of the rural populace, tribals, labourers, and the underprivileged, thus perpetuating the legacy of its esteemed founder.
